Win a trip to space by predicting the weather!
1. Brief Summary
Space-Shot.com allows you to win a trip to space on Rocketplane XP via a game of skill. You may become one of the first 1,000
people to ever fly in space. The first step is to buy some entries into the tournament. Each entry costs $3.50 or 6 for $18.
The second step is to use your entry to make a prediction of the weather for Central Park tomorrow from midnight to midnight
Eastern time. We provide you with research from Accuweather and Custom Weather. The third step is to predict. The fourth step
is to see who your opponent is and the prediction you are competing against. The last step for you is wait to see if you have
won and play again.
You are matched with another player just like you. If you have the better prediction, you get to play free at level 2. One
entry takes you all the way through the tournament if you keep winning. The other player has to use a new entry.
The next 16 levels are played the same way. You can take as much or as little time as you want between levels. Again, you
research and predict the weather in Central Park for the next day from midnight to midnight eastern time. Then you find out
who your opponent is and wait to see if you have won. If you win each level, you win a trip to space!

Game Play Questions:
Q: Can I buy as many entries as I wish (even in one day?)
A: Yes! Give us a call at 1-87-SPACE-TRIP if you want more than 2,000 entries.
Q: How do I see how I am doing at each level?
A: On the View Plays tab, you can see who your opponent is, how your predictions did and all of your used and unused plays
at each level.
Q: How do I know when I have won or lost?
A: At roughly 3:30 a.m. Eastern Time, the National Weather Service posts the data we use to determine winners. Once we calculate
the winners, you will see the status change on your play to "Won" or "Lost" typically. If you won, you get a new unused play
at the next higher level.
Q: How long will it take to win a flight if I never lose, starting at the first level?
A: A prediction on day 1 for weather on day 2 gets resolved on day 3. Predicting without pause, theoretically, could win a
flight in as few as 35 days.
Q: If I win, do I have to make a prediction immediately or can I wait and make one another day?
A: Players can take a few days or weeks between plays if they prefer.
Q: Can I skip some lower levels by buying a higher level entry?
A: Certainly! A higher level costs about twice as much as the next lower level entry.
Here is a chart of the prices:
Price for Entries by Levels
Qualifying
Level 1: $3.50
Level 2: $6.25
Level 3: $12
Level 4: $24
Level 5: $48
Level 6: $96
Level 7: $190
Level 8: $380
Level 9: $750
Level 10: $1,500
Level 11: $3,000
Level 12: $6,000
Playoffs
Level A: $11,000
Level B: $21,000
Level C: $40,000
Level D: $77,000
Level E: $150,000
*The prize is a
$192,500 trip to
space and
$100,000 cash
*If you have $192,500, you can buy a trip
to space instead of an entry.
Q: How do I play?
A: You predict four items: The high and low temperature, the precipitation, and the humidity.
Q: Can someone please explain all this to me?
A: Certainly. Take a look at the prediction tutorial. If you still have questions, please call 1-87-SPACE-TRIP.
Q: What's the difference between the basic and advanced play tools?
A: The basic tool asks you four questions in plain English. The advanced tool is graphical. You click on your predictions.
Q: How do I win?
A: If you are closer on the high temperature than your opponent, you win. The rest of the predictions are used as tie breaks.
Q: How do I win the first tie break?
A: The first tie break is whether you are closer on low temperature.
Q: Are there more tie breaks?
A: If your and your opponent's predictions on the high temperature and low temperature are equally good, you win if you are
closer on precipitation. If your and your opponent's predictions are also equally good on the precipitation, you win if you
are closer for humidity.
Q: What if we are completely tied?
A:Then you and your opponent both get a new unused play at the same level you played. This can happen on the day you predict
if you both predict the exact same thing or once the predictions are resolved if the actual weather is half way between what
you predicted.
Q: What's the difference between a play and an entry?
A: A tournament entry becomes a play once you have purchased it. You may also win a play by making a better prediction at
the previous level. If your prediction ties or goes unmatched, you get a new unused play.
Q: What can I do while I am waiting to see if my prediction was successful? Can I make a second prediction for the next day,
so I dont have to wait an extra day to make a new prediction?
A: Yes! If you have another unused play, you can use it. You can have as many predictions in play as you like, even for the
same day.
Q: Can I play twice at the same level? Can I play against myself?
A: We will only match you with another player so you may make as many predictions as you have plays at any level.
Q: What tools are available to me to help research my prediction?
A: We require that you research weather information from Accuweather and Custom Weather before making your prediction and
we display the research right on the prediction page. We encourage you to do additional research at the National Weather Service,
Weather Underground, The Weather Channel , and the local New York TV and radio stations.
Q: Why Central Park? Will you eventually feature other locations?
A: We've chosen Central Park as the location for our first site because it is one of the most recognizable outdoor places
in the world that has weather data from a weather station on location. Once the game is established, we will have other games
that use other locations in different parts of the United States and the World!
Central Park, New York City
Q: Where do you get your weather data?
The official temperature and humidity for each day are obtained from the National Weather Service . We do not have our own
weather stations. In this way, the data is independently verified so you can cross-check it with the NOAA .
Q: What if there are not enough people to play?
A: All it takes is two people to play and make progress toward someone winning a trip to space. If 15 people per state per
day buy an entry, we will award a ticket every six months. If the 135,000 people who registered for a free ticket to space
in January 2005 buy an entry every day, then we will award 365 tickets a year.
Legal and Money
Q: Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to play?
A: Not at all! You may play from any country of the world where playing online skill games are legal. Note that games of skill
are completely different from games of chance. (See next question)
Q: Is there an age restriction?
A: Yes, you must be 18 to play.
Q: What is the difference between a game of skill and a game of chance, and what category does your game fall under?
Ours is a game of skill. Your accuracy and skill at predicting the weather will determine the outcome of the game, not random
chance.
Weather prediction is a multi-billion dollar industry that includes everything from your TV weatherman to some of the worlds
most powerful supercomputers that were expressly designed to predict and simulate earths weather!
Q: How do I pay for my initial entries?
A: We accept Visa and MasterCard. (When buying in at levels A . E ($11,000 - $150,000), additional verification is required
for security reasons. Call 1-87-SPACE-TRIP for more information.)
Q: What do you do with the entry money?
A: About 50% of it goes to pay for spaceflights. 25% of it goes to pay for cash-co prizes. 5% of it goes to Visa and MasterCard.
We fund our remaining operations with the last 20%. We give 3% of net proceeds to charity.
Q: Where do you donate the charity money?
A: 3% of net profits from each play are donated to a charity selected by the player. Players may click here for a letter to
send to their favorite charity so it can be added to the list. Our first charity is the Space Frontier Foundation.
Q: Are my winnings taxable?
A: Please check with your accountant or attorney. We will be issuing a 1099 for the fair market value of the prize.
Q: What if I am not satisfied with the game?
A: We offer a money-back guarantee for Level 1 entries. No refunds for levels 2 and higher. Call 1-87-SPACE-TRIP if you are
unsatisfied.
Spaceflight
Q: Who will provide your suborbital spaceflights?
A: Our partner Rocketplane Ltd., Inc. Rocketplane expects to start test flights in January 2007 and revenue flights in 2008.
Rocketplane is still in development. In the event Rocketplane does not fly, your ticket price will be in escrow so SpaceShot
can buy you a seat on another provider.Click here for a video rendition of your flight experience if you win.
Q: What if I cannot pass the physical for the flight?
A: We award you a cash prize instead of the ticket.
Q: What if no commercial passenger spaceflight is in operation by 2009?
A: As in the case of a medical disqualification, we will award you a cash prize instead of the ticket.
Q: What if I don't want to to go to space?
A: If for any reason you cannot or don't want to claim your spaceflight prize, we will award you a cash prize instead. After
you have accepted your ticket to space and the $100,000, you no longer may have the alternative cash prize.
Q: If I win a spaceflight, how soon do I have to commit to flying?
A: Winners will be required to commit up to six months prior to their flight. The first flights are scheduled for 2008.
Q:What will a trip on Rocketplane XP be like?
A: Check out our Hi-res (6.9MB) or Lo-res (3.0 MB) animations to get a feel for what the experience will be like. (requires
Windows Media Player)
SpaceShot, Inc.
Q: When was SpaceShot founded?
A: October 2004.
Q: What was the genesis of the SpaceShot idea?
A: A 2002 industry study released in October 2004 estimated suborbital demand without regard to prizes won in games. We saw
our opportunity.
Q: Where is SpaceShot based?
A: Austin, Texas.
Q: What kind of company is SpaceShot, Inc.?
A: A privately held Texas corporation.
Q: How can I learn more about SpaceShot?
A: Check out our press page.

Now I find that this article does not provide all the true facts. The blankets the English gave the Wampanoag were laced with
the plague that wiped the tribe out. That is how this country began...Mass Homicide...
Frequently Asked Historical Questions about the original Mayflower:
1. What happened to the original ship Mayflower?
Nobody knows for sure what happened to the original Mayflower. The last record of the ship was an assessment of her value
in 1624. After that, she disappeared from maritime records. Several places in England claim to have a piece of the original
ship, but there is no historical proof to support these claims.
2. Where did Mayflower first arrive?
On November 9, 1620, Mayflower's crew first sighted land off Cape Cod near the Wampanoag village of Pamet. The next day, the
ship attempted to travel south around the Cape to the colonists' intended destination at the mouth of the Hudson River (present-day
New York). Bad weather and dangerous shoals forced Mayflower's master to turn back. The ship made landfall on November 11
at the tip of Cape Cod (present-day Provincetown). After exploring the Cape Cod area for several weeks, the colonists finally
decided to settle at present-day Plymouth.
back to questions
3. How long were the English colonists on board Mayflower?
Mayflower passengers "lived" on board anywhere from seven to nine months depending on when they joined the voyage and how
soon they left the ship for shelter on land!
4. Did anyone die on the 1620 voyage of Mayflower? Was anyone born?
Two people died during the 1620 voyage of Mayflower. The first was a sailor whose name was not recorded. The second was a
passenger, a young servant named William Butten. After the ship arrived many other passengers and sailors died of illness.
Three babies were born on Mayflower. While at sea, a boy aptly named Oceanus was born to the Hopkins family. After the ship
had arrived at Cape Cod, Susanna White gave birth to a son, Peregrine. Shortly thereafter, Mary Allerton gave birth to a stillborn
son.
5. Did the English colonists name Plymouth?
No. Captain John Smith explored the New England coast in 1614 and gave his map to Prince Charles (who became King in 1625).
Charles put English names on the map, such as Plymouth and the Charles River.
For thousands of years before the English colonists built their town, the Wampanoag village of Patuxet had been there. From
1616-1618, many of the Wampanoag People who lived in Patuxet died in an epidemic most likely spread by European fishermen
and traders. The few survivors of the sickness left Patuxet for other villages. This made it easy for the English to lay claim
to the hillside in the midst of the Wampanoag homeland.
6. Why did the English colonists feel they could move into the middle of the Wampanoag homeland?
The English colonists shared the English/European belief that the "New World" was an undeveloped wilderness brimming with
commercial possibilities, and peopled by backward "heathens" in need of Christianity and other "civilized" ways. This viewpoint
allowed the English and other Europeans countries to boldly claim ownership of a land peopled by vital and thriving Native
communities.
7. Did the Mayflower passengers step on Plymouth Rock?
In fact, the tradition of Plymouth Rock was started over 100 years after the 1620 voyage of the Mayflower. In 1741, a local
Plymouth man by the name of Elder William Faunce pointed out the rock that his father told him was the landing place of the
Pilgrims. The Rocks reputation only grew after the American Revolution, when it became a powerful symbol of liberty for a
young nation looking for historical precedent.
As for the English colonists who were really there during the ship Mayflowers arrival in New Plymouth, they never mention
a Plymouth rock in their writings.
8. Was the "Mayflower Compact" signed on board Mayflower?
Yes. On November 11, 1620, before they came ashore on Cape Cod, the Mayflower passengers made an agreement to join together
as a civil body politic. They also agreed to submit to the government which would be chosen by common consent, and to obey
all laws made for the common good of the colony.
However, this agreement was not called the Mayflower Compact until many years later (so our role players will not recognize
it by that name if you ask them!) The document only became famous at the time of the American Revolution. Politicians from
the two major parties used the Plymouth colonists and their agreement to support their own beliefs about government. To read
more about the Mayflower Compact and view the original text of the document, go to our historical background section.
Frequently Asked Questions about Mayflower II:
1. When was Mayflower II built?
Mayflower II was built from 1955-57 in the town of Brixham, in Devon, England by the skilled shipwrights at the Upham Shipyard.
2. Who paid for the construction of Mayflower II?
Donations from the English people financed the construction of Mayflower II. The project was the brainchild of Englishman
Warwick Charlton. Mr. Charlton wanted to commemorate the historic ties between England and America, which were strengthened
during World War II. Plimoth Plantation agreed to maintain and exhibit Mayflower II once she reached the United States.
3. How is Mayflower II different from a real 17th-century ship?
One of the most notable differences is the large modern staircase between the main deck and the lower decks. (In the 17th
century, ladders were used). Electric lights illuminating the dark corners of the lower deck were also not standard in the
1600s! There were other minor modifications made to Mayflower II to make sure that she would be more accessible, safe and
comfortable for the visiting public.
1. Were the English colonists and Native People friends in the 1620s?
This seemingly simple question has a very complex answer. The answer depends on what you mean by "friends." If by friendship
you mean military agreements, trade relations, regular communications and even social interaction, then the answer is yes,
the English and some Native People were "friends." If friendship means an abiding respect for each other's culture based on
trust and loving-kindness, then the answer is no, they were not friends. In their writings, leading colonists betray contempt
for the customs, household arrangements and, most especially, the religion of the Wampanoag. Likewise, written English sources
and Wampanoag oral traditions reveal that many Native People considered the English to be both strange and aggressive.
Whatever "friendly" relations there were in the 1620s did not last long. After 1630, the relationship between the two cultures
became increasingly tense as more and more English arrived in the Wampanoag homeland. Over the next few decades the differences
between the two cultures reached a crisis. In 1675, a devastating war later called "King Philip's War broke out between the
English and Wampanoag.
2. Did the English colonists and the Native People celebrate "The First Thanksgiving together?
No. While writings from the 1620s mention that the colonists celebrated their first harvest by rejoicing in a special manner
and that Wampanoag People joined them, it was only much laterand erroneouslythat this event was interpreted to be The First
Thanksgiving. In fact, both cultures had separate traditions of giving thanks that predated this particular event, and neither
culture called it a thanksgiving at the time. So not only was it not a "thanksgiving," but it was also not a "first!" Here
at Plimoth Plantation, we simply call this event the harvest celebration in 1621.
3. What happened to the Wampanoag who lived where the English built their town?
The English built their town in 1620 on the site of an important Wampanoag town called Patuxet. From 1616-1618, many of the
Wampanoag people who lived in Patuxet died from a plague that was probably carried by European fishermen and traders. Any
survivors of the sickness most likely left Patuxet for other villages. This devastating event made it easy for the English
to lay claim to this Wampanoag land.
4. Why did the English colonists believe they could move into the middle of the Wampanoag homeland?
The English colonists shared the English/European belief that the "New World" was an undeveloped wilderness brimming with
commercial possibilities. They believed the Native People were backward "heathens" in need of Christianity and other "civilized"
ways. This viewpoint allowed the English and other Europeans to boldly claim ownership of a land peopled by vital and thriving
Native communities.
5. How many people actually lived in Plymouth Colony in 1627?
In 1627, approximately 160 people were permanent residents of the colony, including about 30 families and 20 single men. In
addition, an unknown number of shipwrecked English and Irish people were lodging in Plymouth Colony. These shipwrecked people
left for Virginia towards the end of that summer.

If you want to become whole,
first let yourself become broken.
If you want to become straight,
first let yourself become twisted.
If you want to become full,
first let yourself become empty.
If you want to become new,
first let yourself become old.
Those whose desires are few gets them,
those whose desires are great go astray.
For this reason the Master embraces the Tao,
as an example for the world to follow.
Because she isn't self centered,
people can see the light in her.
Because she does not boast of herself,
she becomes a shining example.
Because she does not glorify herself,
she becomes a person of merit.
Because she wants nothing from the world,
the world can not overcome her.
When the ancient Masters said,
"If you want to become whole,
then first let yourself be broken,"
they weren't using empty words.
All who do this will be made complete.
